Battlefield Medical Support (BMS)
and
Continuity of Healthcare
SITUATION
Counterinsurgency aircraft crashed in very hilly, desert terrain adjacent to enemy occupied area.
Two military aircrew ejected. Quick Reaction Forces (QRF) are deployed to a Forward
Operating Base, collocated with a Field Hospital.
MISSION
Locate, stabilize, report and extract injured aircrew
EXECUTION
QRF is launched with full PJ, medical team and UAS drone assets with comms relay payload. PJs locate survivors, medical team stabilizes aircrew. After aircrew extraction; medical status is relayed through UAS to Field Hospital. QRF returns safely, Field Hospital personnel meets QRF with EMR data; relevant ICU equipment and correct triage/blood-type readied for injured. EMR is transmitted to return waypoints and to applicable VA Hospital via secure internet. All wounded aircrew survive and are returned to CONUS safely.
LESSONS LEARNED
The value of electronic transfer of combat wounded EMR to all healthcare waypoints and store in the VHA electronic records system is life saving. Interested in continuity of care through EMR? (Make a link—>) Contact us today
