The Veterans Health Administration (VHA) is America’s largest integrated health care system, providing care at 1,255 health care facilities, including 170 medical centers and 1,074 outpatient sites of care of varying complexity (VHA outpatient clinics), serving 9 million enrolled Veterans each year. The VHA is part of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
A key factor in its continuing operation rests in new Infornation Technology or Healthcare IT (HIT). Numerous contractors support the modernization of HIT in the Federal System, so integration between all the players and between all the medical systems, devices and applications is essential.
These organizations come in all sizes: Large, like GENERAL DYNAMICS and also many Small Businesses – some are even owned by Disabled Veterans, many of whom are also beneficiaries of the VHA.
While civilian health systems continue to develop and employ new technology, the VA system tends to be reactive in employing these new efficiencies – which can also be lifesaving.
I’ve heard that healthcare is one of the most durable professions in our nations future. That makes the integration of VA Healthcare and HIT even more exciting.
At Information Technologies Integration Partners, we aim to be part of this effort.
